[edit] Welcome dudes/dudettes :)
This is a stub (for now :P )
This is meant to organize plans for Out-of-towners.
Everything between 〈 〉 is pending Dima's approval.
[edit] Welcome Plan
- Drive to the frat〈, with supplies for tomorrow,〉 then Green or Red trains to Blue to O'Hare
- Welcoming Committee to arrive at O'Hare early enough Friday night to catch the first person coming in, hang out till the last person
- We got ways of being distinguishable. Doubly distinguishable if TSA has a problem with it. Don't be public with our ways till the night of.
- Blue Line Train to Clark/Lake, transferring to elevated Green Line
- This depends on how late the planes come in and how late the Green Line runs, else we got Red Line to Jackson, then transfer over pedway to Red Line
- Why this default instead of transferring to Red Line-Jackson? The transfer at Clark/Lake through the Thompson Center looks slicker, and we should try to get to the very last train car to give them a good look of downtown Chicago as we leave it
- Out of Towners and Dima will stay at Frat house
- Rest of Welcoming Committee will 〈drive home, and meet up again at NeoCon08 | spend the night〉
[edit] Things to make sure is in informational flyer
(which we are generating in LaTeX and making sure it meets NSA's definition of ammunition (and says so, in case TSA cares)).
[edit] Things to make sure they know
- Delta Tau Delta Frat house, address and number
- DimaV and Sargas's number
[edit] Things to make sure they bring with
- Standard things (clothes, toothbrush, laptop)
- Standard Neocon things if they can (grills, cooking skillz, etc)
[edit] Illinois/Chicago things to keep in mind
- Joel can't legally drink
- Yousa all above the age of consent
- Smoking is illegal most places in doors, including bars. For more information visit http://cityofchicago.org/. I'd link directly to "Chicago Clean Indoor Air Ordinance" and "Smoke Free Illinois Act" but the website uses unfriendly links.
- Jaywalking is a part of life
- Time is a unit of distance
- always use prime numbers (e.g. "i'm seven minutes away from where you are") for purposes of hilarity and evasion.
[edit] Places to go if time permits
- fermilab
- http://www.fnal.gov/
- historical, monumental, will be the last chance in your life time to see it before its completely scaled back once LHC is fully operational
- Field Museum
- Shedd Aquarium
- Taste of Chicago ?
- Museum of Science and Industry
- sargas's downtown campus for wii and other games
